Content: Judged by his face, the „Mathematician” (Jacques Herlin) is only a well-tempered madcap, who constantly applies to the local bank to empty out some bags, containing the results of his gold digging efforts: sand. But this bizarre behaviour is part of a detailed plan, to rob the gold of Fort Henderson, where the monthly production of the local goldmines is stored. But the “Mathematician” can’t realise his plan all alone, thus he collects a small team, whose members don’t know each other and the whole plan. First we have “Colonel” Blackgrave (Gérard Herter), an ex-officer, dishonorly discharged because of murder. Then there is Django (“Monty Greenwood”), an unscrupulous gunslinger, concerned with killing competitors for the treasure. Finally Janet (Gabriella Giorgelli) joins the team, anxious for Dollars, who has best connections to the Fort’s crew. Independently of each other the adventurers get into the Fort by using different charades. The coup succeeds, but the greed of all involved, which doesn’t know any loyalty, foils all plans.
| The Gunslinger says: Well, folx, it’s nice to explore the lowlands of cinematic producing, but it’s almost nicer to detect a hardly known gem, like this one. It’s a heist-movie in the robe of a SW, showing, how a perfect plan fails because of human deficiencies: Gold is only a fragile cement for interpersonal relationships. First the “Mathematician” traits Janet to the army already briefly after their successful coup. Then he tries to to screw his confederates, which on their part would do all to get the gold. You can’t rely on the army too, because wearing an uniform doesn’t save from greed for gold, even if one has to engage a bunch of bandits to get it. Actors are good, and the atmosphere is convincing sinister. There are many well-staged scenes, i.e. as Blackgrave kills the crew of an army stage-coach with announcement. Because of his own military past, he accords the accompanying officer (Andrea Bosic) the “favour” of a classic duel. The Capuanos supply a good score: trumpets, flutes, percussion and a great trumpet-theme in the just described duelling scene. | Rating: $$$$ | Bodycount: ca. 20 Gringos, 1 Woman | Explicit Brutalities: Nada
