The reasons to choose a pseudonym were manifold. The main role played commercial aspects, which pushed Italians, Spaniards, Germans and other european actorsto change into "born-and-bred" US-Americans. There was no trust, that the SW could succeed at cinema box office. For that reason those films were sold as long lost treasures out of Hollywood's archives. Concerning Hollywood: Don't forget the factor "glamour". "Helga Liné" for example sounds much better than her profane birthname Helga Stern. Another point was, that much of the involved artists didn`t want to get linked withflicks of lowest level: The wish to escape incognito was father to the thought ;-). But nobody wanted renounce the dollars ... |
