Bountyhunter Providence (Tomas Milian) travels the West in his tuned stagecoach to cash on straying scallywags and deliver them to the local authorities against cash. Extra profitable is his last “client” Hurricane-Smith (Gregg Palmer), who is sought-after in nearly every state. For that reason Providence liberates the slow giant out of jail after collecting the bounty, to recapture him and cash in the next district. Understandable, that Smith isn’t quite amused being jailed again and again without seeing any coin of the 10.000 dollars, collected up to now. His attempts to end up this irregular business connection and take the whole money fizzle more than one time. Then the dough is stolen by a third party: first by one of Providence’s girlfriends (Janet Agren), who loses the money to Colonel James (Stelio Candelli) and his boozy troop of rebels. Together Smith and Providence succeed to regain the dollars and found an equal partnership. But they have to realize, that nearly all the dough consists out of counterfeit notes: One of the sheriffs has conned Providence as he paid the money for Smith. The two partners don’t let the matter rest, especially because they scent mucho mas dolàres to earn.

The Gunlinger says:

Fine comedy, made by the talented Giulio Petroni, who is besides Tonino Valerii one of my favourite SW-directors out of the second row. The film renders in his successful slapstick interludes homage to the early comedies by Mack Sennett or Laurel and Hardy. So Petroni uses fast motion for several times and a brawl i.e. could end up in a tango. This special atmosphere is supported by the excellent Tomas Milian, who is not accidentally dressed like Charlie Chaplin with bowler, suit and umbrella. The brawls are well and funny staged. The stagecoach with it’s several gimmicks reminds strongly of the cars of James Bond. During his inquiries Providence borrows habitus and facial expression by Sherlock Holmes, the characteristical pipe included. Against Milian’s fireworks his partners stay colourless, although born American Gregg Palmer has strong moments too. Morricone’s score is fitting and entwines around a female choir declaiming “Provividenza”.

  • The stagecoach is pimped massively: a cup holder for a barrel of beer, ejection seat, several trapdoors, a skid for tins, smoke discharger, water gun, torte catapult
  • Thanks to intensive Yoga trining Providence is an escape artist
  • Naturally Providence is a skilled poker- and billiard-player
  • He uses bolas and the hard brim of his bowler virtually
