In 1865, just after the Civil War has ended, Shango ("Anthony Steffen"), a Ranger, travels the Tex-Mexican frontier with a small squad of soldiers to inform the scattered Confederate troops about the end of war. But the Yankees are ambushed by the Confederates and Shango is captured by Major Droster (Eduardo Fajardo), who continues war for own account.
Together with his allies, a bunch of Mexican guerilleros, Droster hides in a small jerkwater town at the edge of a salt desert. Whereas the Mexicanos just wan to retreat over the border after being paid, Droster follows other plans. To jolly his men and the guerilleros along, he keeps the end of war secret and makes himself at home in the occupied village.
A few weeks later the peones are increasingly on edge by the Drosters, who erode the supplies and rape their women. Shango, who succeeds to escape with the help of Fernandez (Attilio Dottesio), the village eldest, and his son Pablito ("Giusva"), tries to convey the war’s end to soldiers and Mexicanos, which doesn’t work ... of cause: Droster enjoys having the power of life and death, and what will be, will be.

The Gunslinger says:

Edoardo Mulargia, one of the most talented SW-directors out of the second row, can take the credit for having initiated, our beloved stoneface „Anthony Steffen“ in the genre: Mulargia made the Steffen’s genre debut “Jetzt sprechen die Pistolen”.
For this, their second, collaboration Steffen also co-scripted the film. Because of its obviously limited budget the film unfortunately gives away much of the potential, it possesses sheer due to its setting. So I was annoyed by the atmospheric haziness. What a shame, if we could find the apocalyptic sentiment – a bunch of violent crazies plague a lone, isolated village at the edge of the desert – also in the film’s pictures. So the good camera only can serve us a later summer mixed forest ambience, what you usually find at the gates of Rome in that season. Or look at the unusual opening scene, in which Shango hangs in a tree, captured in a wooden cage, which is dealt almost en passant.
But on the other hand there are many well done scenes: So the short sequence with the ladies, buried up to their chin in the middle of burning oil fosses, is really nice. Or the return of terror during the victory fiesta, which is staged very intensive.
Acting efforts are good, but one has to consider, that Eduardo Fajardo upstages the others with his great Major-Jackson-rip-off. Under the Mexican ponchos we get lots of proved cannon fodder, like Spartaco Conversi, Osirid Pevarello or Claudio Ruffini (?).
