Content: Years ago the MacGregors has immigrated from Scotland. Now the clan is breeding horses close to the mexican border. But the gang of Santillana (Leo Anchóriz) is making waves by stealing cattle in the region: As a Santillana detachment tries to visit the MacGregors too, these send the rogues back to hell. After this attempt Gregor MacGregor (*lol*: Robert Woods) prefers to sell the horses for a good price. For that reason six of the MacGregor-sons head for Las Mesas. But here tricky and violent horsetrader Crawford has monopolized the market, buying much below the market-price. Economical frictions are arranged by the corrupt sheriff (Antonio Molino Rojo), so the bros find themselves behind bars rapidly. After their escape, they have to realize, that the flock is vanished. No money, no horses plus the expectation of a fistful of slaps in the face by old Alistair MacGregor (George Rigaud), when returning home force the brothers to fight Santillana. With the help of Rosita (Agata Flori), who has to pick a bone with Santillana too, the brothers are ready to rumble.
| The Casketnail says: Surprise, surprise, what a quaint little surprise. I didn’t expect much, as I read the cast, but “The seven Guns …” convinced me with a straight story, despite it’s composed of well known elements. During the first half I had to think on the Duke classic “Katie Elder”, later on we’ve got a “For a few Dollars more”-ripp-off. The blend of classic US- and Spaghetti-Style succeeds despite some little frailties. On one side we have the boring love-story of Rosita and Gregor, the black-and-white-colouring of characters, on the other side we see heavy brawls, whipping and the impressive staging of the showdown between Gregor and Santillana. Not to forget the high bodycount – pure SW-style. Furthermore to me it seems, as if Giraldi could work with a quite big budget, seen relatively ;-), resulting in a credible atmosphere and some gimmicks, as well-done train-raids. The cast is not as that impressive: So one can highlight Robert Woods, who obviously is able to show more than two facial expressions. Above average too is the acting of Leo Anchóriz as Santillana. Agata Flori once again is nice-looking. Despite its flaws, “The seven Guns …” is a bit weird but entertaining film, which has more light than shadow. Thumb up!
