Content: While Cjamango (Giorgio Ardisson) buys some things in the nearby city, some rogues visit his ranch, killing his whole family. Revenge is the order of the day! To array things, Cjamango pays his debts to local fat cat Stuart (Luigi Pavese), before starting his crusade with the help of Mexicano Barrica (Ignazio Spalla), who has watched the assault on the ranch. They share work in a strange: While Cjamango kills the persons, showed by Barrica, the latter takes the corpses to cash the bounty. Barrica even saves the life of Cjamango, just so that he can continue his bloody work. Cjamango rapidly finds out, that the murderers are members of the Smart brothers (Dragomir Bojanic, Pietro Martellanza) gang, paid by old Stuart. Fortunately an old friend of the family has preserved a dusted gatling out of the Civil War, which becomes quite helpful now.
| The Gunslinger says: Despite of its deficiencies an entertaining western by Vincenzo Musolino, much better than his lousy “Quintana: dead or alive”. It gains back lost terrain because of the thin and bumpy story by its depressing and dark atmosphere. The acting of the characters is purely profit-orientated. Exemplary is Barrica, who follows Cjamango’s track of corpses like a tattered vulture, quarrelling with his greedy opponents for the bounty of the most profitable cadavers. There are no feelings: Even Cjamango, who should actually mourn for his murdered family, tallies his death list coldly. As the suppressed love between him and Virginia Stuart (Cristina Iosani) really gets room to blow, it sprouds between burning ruins and a heap of corpses. Main problem of the film is, that it omits building up an equal opponent for Cjamango: Dragomir Bojanic enters the scene not before the first half of the film has nearly passed. After his appearance he stays a face in the crowd of gangsters. Stuart plays only a minor role and his motivation to execute Cjamango’s family is obscure: business? revenge? The score of di Stefano offers something for everyone: “classic” electric guitars, orchestral insertions with horns, lamenting trumpets- and harp-passages plus occasional organ-parts.
