Doc Malvin (Carl Moehner) suffers under a lack of luck: Descended from a well-known surgeon to an alcoholic and professional player, he kills a young hot spur in self-defence, which accused him of card shaping.
Promptly 10,000 dollars are suspended on his head, that call bountyhunter Slade (Luis Davila) on the plan. On his escape the Doc fakes his death, and he takes over the identity of the dead gunslinger Larry Kitchener, "The man with the golden gun", by taking papers and clothes of the body lying on the street.
But unfortunately Kitchener was on the way into the small town Baldosas to assist the inhabitants in the fight against "General" Pablo Reyes (Fernando Sancho), whose gang terrorizes the area. And exactly there our Doc arrives, who now gets the sheriff job as Kitchener... Slade, who does not believe in Malvin's death, hires as deputy. But first the two must concern with the more badly mayor Brogan (Umberto Raho), who has engaged Sanchez, in order to come cheaply to the country of the citizens. And why? Guessed: The railway will drive up the value of properties.

The Gunslinger says:

Average film, which Alfonso Balcazár produced tautly and without considerable lengths in 1966. No masterpiece, but owing to good actors, appropriate equipment and atmosphere entertainment is guaranteed.

Rating: $$$

Bodycount:

ca. 6 Gringos, 66 Mexicans, 1 Woman

Explicit Brutalities:

Fernando Sancho as a slimy bandit boss Reyes is again the right man for some brutal actions:

  • he kills at least five of his own men without having a cause
  • occasionally he includes a shooting of hostages
  • from revenge he and his mobsters beat up the Doc, whereby boiling water is used also

Luv':

Even if tough widow Norma O'Connor (Maria Fiè = "Gloria Milland") falls in love with the Doc after initial resistance, he doesn't show any interest: 0/10

Gore:

2/10
