Content:

After the the end of the Civil War some of the rebels refuse to surrender: Their leader Machedo (William Berger) has to pick a bone with Yankee captain Jeff Madison (Sergio Ciani). The beau once was jointly responsible for the hanging of Machedo’s brother. Furthermore he has the larger muscles and of course a fancier haistyle than the bit depraved rebel leader. To say nothing of his grrrreat mustache, folx. For that the optical challenged destroy our captain’s home base and kill the whole garrison. Madison himself is tortured, highlighted by the destruction of his gun-hand. Some nice indians cure the wounded, so that he’s back two years later, thirstening for revenge. To bait Machedo for the final dance, Madison steals the gold out of a successful bankrobbery of the bandits and digs himself in a ghost-town.

The Gunslinger says:

Well, folx, what should I say: It’s a kind of firstclass non-starter with some nice little brutes as pluses, but which drowns in other respects like The Gunslinger without his swimming ring. Atmospherically and by its acting the film stays clearly under SW average, whereas camera-work and sounds are definitely felicitous. Who the hell stroke on the idea to charge squinting “Alan Steel” with the leading role?

Gianni Ferrio’s score is a real good one but fairly off-key: Souly instrumentals with strings, trumpets and organ, added by jazzy passages with piano and trombone. The title track, sung by Ann Collin, is a burner, but rather suitable for a Soul Allnighter than a SW.

  • Madison gets a double-course special treatment by Machedo’s gang: First course is public spitting. For the desert Machedo serves some bullets into Madison’s right hand
  • After Madison has stolen the booty out of the bankrobbery, the bandits torture one of their comrades to death, who is supposed to be a traitor
