Content: Mexico is terrorized by the loopy hungarian baron and butterfly-collector Orlowski (Christopher Connelly). The baron once has reached the country as a court drudge of austrian emperor Maximilian, later executed by the rebels of Benito Juarez. Now the baron “rides” the rivers with his armored ship, catching peones and his children, which either have to work in his silvermine or are sold to the brothels in the land. This is the fate awaiting young Marisol too, who is captured by the baron’s mercenaries. But blessing in disguise: Marisol is the daughter of Django (Franco Nero), the former gunman, now living peacefully as a kind of monk in a cloister. Django, searching Marisol, is caught by Orlowski and has to dig in the silvermine. With the help of another prisoner, the scientist Gunn (Donald Pleasence), Django escapes and reactivates his machinegun, holding a bloody harvest. Together with the boy Manuel, whose dad once was killed by Orlowski, Django starts to liberate all prisoners and put a stop on the activities of the hungarian rogue.
| The Gunslinger says: „Django strikes again“ is the genuine sequel of Sergio Corbucci’s original “Django”: Rossati takes over Corbucci’s protagonist in a story, which takes place roundabout 20 years after the incidents of part one. Well, but this film can’t fit to hold a candle to its predecessor. Despite some interesting ideas, e.g. the sadistic rogue on his black ironargument, the result is an adventure film, which could take place in South America, Africa or Vietnam as well: No Spaghetti atmo, allthough we’ve got a quite good score and a nice camerawork. Furthermore Django has progressed to a mixture of Keoma, Rambo and a Steven-Segal-clone, ridiculous ponytail inclusive.
In the prologue, which hardly is connected with the main plot, we see William Berger. He plays an old gunslinger, yelling for the old times, who only wanna die honestly in his boots. Finally he succeeds, unfortunately Django didn’t.
