In 1865 civil war is finshed. Under the thousands of ragged ex-soldiers we find the young lieutenant William Preston (Miguel Bosé), who only wants to go back home to Georgia. He attachs to a mysterious and extremely silent ex-officer (Giuliano Gemma), who calls himself "Michael Random" and who takes the Greenhorn under his wings. In vain: As Junior provokes some Yankees and the two companions additionally steal them a horse, Preston ends up on the gibbet. Random later on reaches the farm of Preston Sr. (William Berger), where his help is urgently needed as well as his virility by Willie's lonely sister Helen (Paola Bosé). But unfortunately bountyhunter Robe Whittaker (Raimund Harmstorf) and his men burst in the idyll: Whittaker, who earned his crust with the killing of confederate rogues, is disgraced by his now respectable clients in the meantime. In order to save his own head, he kidnaps Helen. Now Mike's gun is in demand.

The Gunslinger says:

Quite entertaining Western, which Michele Lupo produced in 1977. Even if the story sometimes is a bit inconsequential, decorations and the good camera guidance indemnify for it plentifully. Beyond that Lupo called up many proven Spag-actors, who make a good job: Besides Gemma play among others an aged William Berger, Claudio Undari ("Robert Hundar") with bald head, Enzo Fiermonte or Franco Ressel. The Score of Gianni Ferrio is unusal: a blend of 70s-style orchestra-themes, Prog-Rock à la The Nice and classical Spaghetti elements.
